"I am Akhshaya Naveenethan. I work as an anchor, an mc, a soft skill trainer, motivational speaker and, above all, I am a plus size model. But all this did not happen overnight; there were days when I was none of these. Just Akhshaya. There were days when nobody believed in me; even I didn’t believe in myself!
The environment you grow up in plays a huge role in your personality development; I have school memories of my hindi teacher asking me why I was fat and my dance teacher changing my role to a scarecrow. All of this did have an impact on me; the innocent child that I was, I had no idea that this was body shaming. All these flashbacks made me feel terrible and I felt a strong urge to change myself, groom myself and stop blaming myself for who I am.That took me a while and when I was 19, Deccan Chronicle popped up an article calling me Chennai's youngest fashion Diva. When I started accepting myself, I felt much better. And, today, I am happy and the best version of myself."
We, at aLL, believe that confidence comes from within and we love Akhshaya for being her bold and beautiful self. Do you have a story that you'd like to share? Tell us in the comments below and don’t forget to use #FashionforaLL.
